How to read the result

The corpus is the lump sum you should have by retirement. The monthly investmentis roughly what you'd need to invest from now until then to build it — after counting what your existing savings will grow to.

Small changes matter: retiring two years later, trimming expenses, or starting today instead of next year can each move the monthly number a lot. A plan turns these trade-offs into a clear path — which is where a Certified Financial Planner professional helps.

FAQ

Common questions

How much do I need to retire?

Enough to cover your expenses for the rest of your life after you stop earning. This calculator grows today's monthly expenses to your retirement age using inflation, then works out the lump sum (corpus) needed to fund them through retirement — accounting for the returns your corpus keeps earning.

Why does inflation matter so much?

Because prices roughly double every 12 years at 6% inflation. What costs ₹50,000 a month today could cost far more by the time you retire. Ignoring inflation is the single biggest reason retirement plans fall short.

What returns should I assume?

Use a higher return before retirement (when you can hold more equity) and a lower, safer return after (when capital protection matters more). Returns are never guaranteed — keep the assumptions conservative and revisit the plan regularly.

Is this a substitute for a real plan?

No. It's a starting point. Your actual plan depends on your income, existing assets, risk profile, dependants and goals — which is exactly what a Certified Financial Planner professional maps out with you.
